CAA has released their 2018 ranking of the worst roads in Ontario. And, the winner was a street that has made appearances on the list before.
CAA began the worst roads campaign back in 2003, and helps to give exposure to roads that need work, influencing improvements across the province. Those across Ontario are able to nominate their favorite worst road, and vote for the winner. This year saw over 3,500 nominations, the most in the campaign’s history.
The winner this year was none other than Burlington Street East in Hamilton, a road, that like many others that appeared on this year’s list, is no stranger to the top ten, having appeared on it in the past.
And without further ado, here is the full top ten list of Ontario's Worst Roads for 2018:
"It's clear from the results of this year's CAA Worst Roads campaign, that there are several roads that continue to be an issue for the public despite appearing on the list many times," said Raymond Chan, government relations specialist, CAA South Central Ontario in a media release. "There are also some roads that seem to be emerging as new challenges for road users, and so we will be encouraging decision-makers to look at these roads before issues become persistent."
According to CAA’s findings, roughly three quarters of votes were made by drivers while the last quarter was made up of cyclists and pedestrians. Potholes were cited by voters as the primary reason for selecting their chosen roads, while 15% voted based off of cycling infrastructure, and 10% because of road congestion.
